QUIZ: HIT OR MYTH?
The one myth
I see stopping many women is the
"I don't have a dream myth."
Here
are some suggestions to crack that myth wide open.
Spending Time Alone: When was the
last time you where in your own company-without distraction? I use to
leave my toddlers with my husband and drive for a while. It was my way
of being alone. There are also libraries, college study rooms and even
Laundromats. (They are not quiet but I know women who have gone there
to write and say it works for them.) Dreams often start with a whisper
and if we don't take time to listen, we will never hear it.
Celebrate Past Dreams: That is right
you have lived dreams! You have visualized a future event, imagined what
it would feel like, and taken actions to make your vision a reality. Stop
and take stock of past dreams and acknowledge what it took to make it
happen.
Name Your Fear: Is there a fear that
is standing at the doorway of your dream? What is the reason you give
yourself for not finding your dream? Is it fear dressed in the cloak of
a "good reason?" Sometimes the simple act of naming your fear
helps you take the next step. Standing just over five feet, I use to think
I was too small to do things. It sounds funny to me now. But back then
I used it as a "good reason" not to do things I love. Remember
fear stands for False Evidence Appearing Real.
Take a Step: The one true way to test your direction is to
take action. Take the class that you have wondered about. If it isn't
right, you can dropout. Call the adoption agency and find out what it
would require to start the process. There are many first step take one
then assess how you feel. This can help you decide on step two, three,
four
. Getting started is really the hardest part.
